Disaster Areas

We strive to educate the consumer about the way a tile job should not be done, especially when it comes to wet areas like showers and bathrooms.

First of all, if someone tells you, “the tile is waterproof, I know what I am doing,” DO NOT let them work on your project!

We recommend the use of Schluter KERDI Shower System or a conventional mud floor and the use of cement board along with the KERDI water-proofing membrane. THIS IS A MUST IN A STEAM SHOWER. KERDI is not only a water-proofing membrane, but also a VAPOR retarder.

The Installation of TILED showers is not a job for someone with little or no experience. To know how to properly install a tiled shower floor and to actually have the experience of doing so is about 4 to 6 years of training by a qualified tile setter.

The biggest mistake in the installation of a tiled shower begins with the installation of the drain hub and rubber shower liner. From what I have seen in my years of replacing and installing these showers, if the floor is not pre-sloped prior to the installation of the liner, water will build up because it cannot reach the weep holes and drain. This leads to a constantly water-saturated mortar bed that will eventually lead to efflorescence and mold growth.
